The wild maritime pine is grown at 400-600m elevation in the unspoiled countryside of central Portugal. There, the fresh air and low pollution levels, combined with the local climate, offer optimal growing conditions for the tree. The fluctuations between cold nights and hot, dry days, allow for the formation of a particularly high concentration of valuable ingredients and aromas, including alpha- and beta-pinene.
Twigs, needles and damaged wood are collected from the trees and processed on-site via distillation.
The producer of our maritime pine essential oil is a small, nature-loving, young, family-owned business based in Portugal. The company specialises in wildcrafting and the collection of damaged wood from the native plants. The producers use a very gentle distillation method with low water pressure, which leads to the extraction of almost all the valuable plant substances. All of the producer's oils are EU certified organic.
Maritime pine belongs to the pine (Pinaceae) family. It is a cone-shaped tree with thick, cracked bark. Its shoots grow 10-25cm long, stiff, grey-green needles. It is native to south-western Europe and the Mediterranean region.
The scent of maritime pine has a purifying and invigorating effect. The fresh, slightly resinous aroma is beneficial for sleep disorders and nervous tension by promoting clarity, liveliness and balance.
