Character

Flavour

An autumn flush with a wonderful golden cup and an aroma that is reminiscent of oolong. The tea captivates with soft nutty notes and delicate mineral qualities. Slightly astringent. Well-balanced and rounded off with a hint of mandarine.

Leaf

Fine leaves, uniformly oxidised, reddish golden needles

Cup

Vibrant orange-red

Black Tea

Black tea is the most oxidised form of tea. In contrast to green tea, the oxidation of the leaves after harvest and withering is not stopped with heat, but rather further facilitated by intensive rolling of the leaves, which breaks open cell walls and exposes the enzymes responsible for oxidation. Over the course of this process the leaves change from green to black and a full-bodied and broad aroma develops. The cup is often orange or red, which is where the Chinese name for this tea (hong cha, meaning "red tea") comes from.

Cultivation & Processing

The Guranse Estate is one of the highest-ranking tea gardens in the world. The climatic conditions in the highlands of Hile in Dhankuta Province, eastern Nepal are ideal. The elevation ensures an advantageous bracing climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The relatively high rainfall is balanced out by good drainage on the hill slopes.

Single Origin

This tea is exclusively sourced from the above mentioned tea farm in Hile, Nepal.

Sourced directly from the tea farmer.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

2 heaped tsp per 200-300ml (80-85°C) water. Steep for 2 minutes.

Packaging

High quality, airtight, resealable standing zipper pouch with 9 protective layers to preserve flavour and protect against oxidation and contamination.

Recommended Teapot

A neutral porcelain teapot or a tall glass teapot with a built-in strainer, which allows the tea to float and steep freely, is recommended. A gaiwan is also very well suited for tea.

Recommended Storage

Ideally store in a quality tea caddy made from cherry tree bark (wooden, kabazaiku chazutsu) or an airtight, double-coated metal tin.
