Teruyuki Isobe
One of the most in-demand Kyusu artisans alive, Teruyuki Isobe (b.1938) has specialised in hand-turned teapots since 1954, starting his career at the acclaimed Takasuke kiln before going independent in 2007. Besides traditional Tokoname-yaki style teapots, he made his mark with his distinctive Inka "flower stamp" designs that are highly sought-after amongst teaware connoisseurs worldwide.
Inka
The award-winning signature Teruyuki Isobe teapot, the spectacular Inka Kyusu is meticulously hand-stamped with a flurry of tiny blossoms set against a backdrop of coloured clay.
Mogake
A classic Tokoname-yaki decorative detail, Mogake (藻掛け) or "seaweed coating" involves wrapping seaweed around the clay body before firing, which then burns off to leave a delicate carbonised web.
